It's almost necessary to really see the gorillas.**

This was the mountain
I climbed. We walked up
the middle, and up and
around the second ridge
to the left from the top.

A silverback is laying
right in this dense
jungle right in the
middle of this picture.

 |

He was sleeping when
we first arrived. He
knew we were there
but he was sluggish
from just waking up.

 |

Within about five
minutes, a baby gorilla
came out of the jungle
to see what we were
all about.

 |

The baby then started
to play on his dad,
standing on him and
waking him up.

 |

Okay, dad has decided
to get up now. When he
rolled over, we were like WOW!

 |

Silverbacks can weigh
up to 450 pounds. We
won't be messing
with him!

 |

Now the silverback is on
all fours, fully awake,
and hungry. You can
kind of make out the
silver on his back.

 |

Here's the baby
watching us. At one
point, he stood up tall
and began to beat his
chest while making loud
noises! We all laughed
(quietly) as it was so
funny to see!

 |

The guide and trackers
would talk back and forth
with the silverback. It
was really cool. They
would pretty much mimic
whatever he would say. It
was seriously just like
"Gorillas in the Mist."

Here's the baby eating
a bamboo stick, observing
us observing him.

 |

At this point, the
silverback moved and the
baby followed him. We
can see them more clearly
now -- so go to the next
page of pictures.
