CHIMPANZEE TRACKING PICTURE LINK

Within Queen Elizabeth Park lies the famous Chambura Gorge. Located at the edge of the Rift Valley escarpment, the gorge is about ten miles long, 300 feet deep, and at the widest point it's over 550 yards. It links Kyambura River with the Kazinga Channel, and the gorge has steep forested walls (hard to climb back out of, but I did it in three legs!).

The gorge is home to chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus, baboons, vervet monkeys, giant forest hogs, hippos, and many bird species (peregrine falcon, black and blue-headed bee-eaters, African finfoot, etc). The gorge is also an important water source for savannah animals.

Chambura Gorge is the only place in Queen Elizabeth Park where chimpanzee tracking is conducted. These chimps have been "habituated" to allow for viewing at close range. Check out the picture link above to see the gorge and the chimpanzees.
