We shopped at the following three places while in Nairobi:
Utamaduni Crafts Center
We shopped for many crafts here. Located near the Giraffe Center, there are 18 individual craft shops located in one large building. It was opened in 1991 by Richard Leakey and a portion of the profits go to the Kenya Wildlife Service. The crafts were of good quality and there’s no bargaining as the prices are marked on the items. You get a receipt from each shop and pay only once when you leave.
Sarit Center
The Sarit Center is a large shopping mall. There are over 60 shop and offices, including our travel agency. It also has a very large grocery store, food court, money exchange office, post office, and small movie theater. We spent a lot of time here.
The Mall
This is a smaller, open-air shopping mall that reminded me more of a two-level strip mall. We didn't do much shopping here but did have lunch. We went here mainly to shop for Masai crafts, and bought many at the open market located at one end of the mall. You'll get heckled to death and bargaining is the game. It’s a very intimidating experience, so make sure to walk the whole market to see what you want first before you say a word!
