MASAI MARA DEPARTURE PICTURE LINK
After Game Drive #8, we went back to Kichwa Tembo for breakfast. We then had to quickly pack as they wanted us ready at 10:00am for our 11:00am
flight.
As we were checking out, I heard our names "Dawn and Jeff" on the CB radio in the back room of the reception area. I told the reception
clerk that I had heard our names, and he was surprised as it was a pilot of a plane that was about to land. To make a long story short,
since Blue Sky Aviation had switched us to Queensway Air Services to fly to the Masai Mara, the camp staff assumed we were flying back out
on Queensway which comes at 11:00 (Blue Sky Aviation comes at 10:00).
Normally a plane won't wait for its passengers if they aren't there and ready to go at the airstrip. All of a sudden everyone was
scrambling in the camp, carrying our luggage and rushing all around. Just as we were hurrying out of the reception area to an
awaiting jeep, our plane
buzzed the camp very low which was really quite exciting! Sarah the camp hostess jumped in the jeep with us, and we went speeding off
to the airstrip. Sarah said it wasn't our fault at all, especially since the airlines are suppose to give a 30 minute courtesy call to
confirm passenger pickup.
The pilots were impatiently waiting for us but everything worked out fine. We were the only two on this
flight. We were in the air for about fifteen
minutes before we landed at another airstrip near the Keekorok Lodge. This camp is where a lot Asians like to stay. A group of Japanese were
waiting for the plane and every seat was sold. They loaded up and off we went.
What's funny is that after we took off again, within ten minutes everyone stopped talking
(they were very excited) and most of them were fast asleep. Jeff and I were like "what's going on," so we turned around and the
whole plane of passengers were zonked out!!
It was less than an hour flight before we were back in the hustle and bustle of Nairobi. We were picked up by a driver from
Concorde Safaris Limited, and then taken back to Angela's house so we could drop off our laundry for Florence to do. We then went to The
Mall for lunch and Masai souvenir shopping, and we then spent the rest of the day at the Kenya National Museum before picking up dinner at
a local grocery store.
