FACEBOOK: Bottom Menu Bar

This bottom menu bar is always present and doesn't move.

LEFT SIDE

APPLICATIONS – Pop-up menu of all applications.

PHOTOS, VIDEO, NOTES, and POSTED ITEMS – See all the latest that your friends have posted into these categories.

EVENTS – It’s like a calendar (I don't see many people using it). However, the "Birthday" tab is useful.

GROUPS – A quick link to get to the groups you've signed up on. You can also view what groups your friends have recently joined.

RIGHT SIDE

You can find out which friends are on Facebook right now by clicking on ONLINE FRIENDS. You can IM them here by clicking on their name. IM means "instant messaging" and it is real-time chatting between two people based on typed text. If there is a green dot next to a friend’s name, they are currently using their computer and you can therefore IM them. If your friend is listed but there’s not a green dot, they are online but not at their computer right now.

NOTIFICATIONS is the next button over. When someone has interacted with you, you'll receive a notification. Watch for a red # on this button that tells you that you have new notifications. These will be the same notifications you receive by email if you have that feature on.

CHAT is where you can change your on-line status. You can also click on "Pop Out Chat" to open an IM window here.
